MARYTON PARK
Why Maryton Park? A name that came from it being the midway position between our local towns of Marysville and Buxton.

To tie in with our garden, each cottage has been named after the garden’s flora.

EARLY DAYS
Our property was originally established some 60 years ago.  It became very popular with international tourists as the original owners were German and Danish and operated a “Danish Coffee Garden”. The current owners purchased the property in 2001 when they were looking for a change to country lifestyle after owning very successful bakeries in the Dandenong Ranges.
NOW
The stunning property has grown into a gorgeous lakeside garden of large mature trees with an expansive accommodation business.

It is with pride that we can see our guests enjoying our garden and lake that is set alongside the Steavenson River on 12.75 acres.

The area has been successfully rebuilt since 2009 and has become a growing tourism destination for nearby Marysville, with visitors travelling from Melbourne through the Black Spur, and for the popular snow activities at Lake Mountain Alpine Resort. Guests may also visit the many fishing spots along our great trout fishing streams or a beautiful bushwalk on tracks nearby including Cathedral Ranges State Park or the waterfalls at Steavenson Falls.

GARDEN DELIGHTS
Maryton Park also grows our own berries; Californian blackberries and blueberries during the summer months. We make our jam, that is for sale to guests and is delicious on a croissant or toast at breakfast.

The ducks roam our gardens or enjoy swimming in the trout stocked lake. You are welcome to fish in our lake or wander down the lane to the Steavenson’s River which runs through our property, so don’t forget your fishing rods.  You never know, you might catch a fish or two and throw them on your Cottage BBQ.

JONESY’S KITCHEN BY THE LAKE

This little kitchen means the world to us. It was built by a very dear friend of ours after the bushfires in 2009. It is fully self-contained with a BBQ area attached on the side. So have a fish in the lake, have a BBQ and feel free to use this facility.

INTRODUCING YOUR HOST

Meet Tony Thompson
While looking after guests and managing Maryton Park, I also enjoy getting outdoors and trying my luck with a bit of fishing.
It was my pleasure being part of Lake Mountain Alpine Resort snow season opening in my former position as board member and join in with Welcome to Country. Back in 2019, here I was invited to try on the traditional possum cloak of the Taungurung people during the smoking ceremony.
Lake Mountain hosted its official opening for 2023 on Saturday 10 June.

GARDEN FUN FACTS

Did you know?
Royal Botanic Gardens Melbourne’s Herbarium identified our trees in the Taxodium genus after receiving their images.  They are rare in our Australian climate and mostly found in South America.
It is these genera that are of pharmacological interest today, for chemicals in their wood are believed to have anti-cancer properties.
Tony believes these are now over 30 years old and were planted back around 1990.  We find they are most spectacular during Autumn season as the leaves turn a vibrant rust colour that covers the lawn in a carpet of their needles.
